  • SUPPORTIVE RELATIONSHIPS THAT CHANGE LIVES

HELPING LGBTQ+ ADOLESCENTS AND YOUNG ADULTS OVERCOME ADDICTION AND MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES

Working together towards a sound and healthy life

Achieving and maintaining sobriety is hard work, and no one should do it alone. This is especially true for young people navigating adolescence, gender identity, and sexual orientation. Big Little Bows provide our Little Bows with an expert but neutral party who listens and supports them without judgment—helping them see the light at the end of the tunnel. Big Bow’s are not just any adult mentor; they’ve successfully faced similar challenges with substances, gender identity, and sexual orientation.

Sound advice and guidance are all part of the Big Little Bows program.

Big Bow Mentors have been exactly where the Little Bows are today. They understand what the Little bows are going through and can relate to them on a deeper level—showing that recovery is possible and that you can have it all.

A vital part of the recovery process comes from feeling safe. Little Bows can express themselves knowing there is trust and confidentiality.

Mentoring is not meant to be a substitute for professional guidance. Mentors complement and enhance the work done with professionals and family members.

Our volunteers

Jonathan Doe

“Can I turn back time? No. But if I could, I would want a mentor to guide me, counsel and help me avoid bad decisions. My difficult journey to sobriety and mental health is my own motivation for helping young people succeed on their own journey.“

Nyla Martin

“Been there, done that. I know the feelings my Little Bow is feeling. That makes all the difference in the way I approach and mentor. No bull, straight talk and tough love…”

Testimonials

Jean, mother of Trevor

I love my son and he loves me, but there are topics and feelings he can’t express to his own mom.

It’s always important for young people to have quality relationships with friends and adults outside of the family, but when gender issues and substance abuse come into the equation, it’s even more crucial.

Mentoring has helped both of us by providing him with a trusted guide who truly understands what he’s going through and providing me with the confidence that he’s being supported in his own journey towards acceptance and well-being.
